What do I need to do before I arrive for check-in in the departure hall of an aerodrome?

When packing for a trip, you should keep in mind that it is best to pack the following items in your checked-in baggage: vanity case, toothpaste, hair products, perfume glasses, cream, aftershave, deodorant, soaps, shaving cream, and other similar items. Remember also to pack items in your checked-in baggage which are not allowed in hand baggage. Items such as scissors, nail files, and pocket knives must be packed in checked-in baggage. If such items are found in hand baggage during security check, the passenger is without exception prohibited from continuing with the item through the security gate.

How can I expedite the security check?

Be prepared to present security guards with travel documents/boarding pass and/or identification/passport for inspection. Be prepared to place hand baggage in a plastic tray by the conveyor belt in front of the x-ray machine if such trays are on hand.

Be prepared to:

  • Take the plastic bag with the liquids from your hand baggage, take your laptop computer and larger electric devices from your bag
  • Take off your overcoat, jacket
  • Take off your belt and empty your pockets

These items shall, among others, be specially screened:

What happens if banned items are found in hand baggage?

If banned items (for example, pointed items, liquids in larger containers than 100 ml) are found during security check, the passenger will not be allowed to carry them past the security gate.
When a passenger is undergoing security search, it is too late to pack banned items in baggage which was checked in earlier. Aerodromes in Iceland do not have facilities for storing banned items.
