In accordance with Article 3 of Act no. 100/2006 on the Icelandic Civil Aviation Administration (ICAA), the Minister of the Interior appoints the Advisory Board of Civil Aviation. The period of appointment of the Civil Aviation Board is four years or until the Minister’s term of office concludes.

    The tasks of the Civil Aviation Board are the following:
  • Discuss policy-making on aviation
  • Provide the Minister of the Interior with opinion on the Transport Council’s proposed transport plan, cf. the Transport Plan Act
  • Discuss the operating plans of the ICAA
  • Discuss tariff proposals
  • Provide opinion on statutes and rules concerning aviation
  • Discuss issues which the Minister of the Interior or the Althing sends to the Advisory Board of Civil Aviation for discussion
  • Discuss matters which the Director General of ICAA or individual members of the Advisory Board of Civil Aviation request it to discuss

Regulation on the Advisory Board of Civil Aviation is no. 1290/2007

The Director General of ICAA shall attend Board meetings and have the right to speak and submit motions, as shall any ICAA employee who the Director General feels have a reason to attend or who are requested to attend by the Board. The Advisory Board of Civil Aviation can request an opinion from the Director General if deemed necessary.

Ragnhildur Hjaltadóttir, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior, works with the Civil Aviation Board.

  • Auður Alfífa Ketilsdóttir, appointed without nomination
  • Gísli Baldur Garðarsson, appointed without nomination
  • Árni Gunnarsson, appointed by nomination of the SA-Confederation of Icelandic Employers
  • Jens Bjarnason, appointed by nomination of the SA-Confederation of Icelandic Employers
  • Lárus Atlason, appointed by nomination of the Icelandic Travel Industry Association
